Window Of Controversy

Lee jeans are straight and this has been the reason for the furor. Lee has recently unveiled its straight fit collection and they didn’t don a celeb to mark this momentous occasion. What they did was to go for a drastic window display makeover and that stirred up a controversy.

So they said 'No matter which way you bend Lee fits you straight.' The gay activists not getting the joke staged quite a protest. They claimed the communication was down right insulting and cheap and that Lee had no right to insult homosexuals.

In India homosexuality has been quite taboo, and is considered to be a criminal offense were one can be subjected to upto 10 years of imprisonment. We also view it as a bad influence of the west, when in actuality same sex love has been around since the time of the Kamasutra. So are the Gay activists overreacting after the harsh treatment they have been subjected to for years, or is it just to gain sympathy votes?

Whatever the case may be in India, homosexuals must realise that their chosen path is not a bed of roses and they can be subjected to nasty treatment. It is time they look at the broader picture and not go around calling the rest of the world narrow minded for just about anything, and definitely not for this.

Hi Dhivya,

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving that great comment.

I've enjoyed reading your work. Wide variety of subjects, great template, lots of energy and I did like your idea of getting Sreeram to review the Aerosmith concert.

Good work. I look forward to more ...

Cheers

David

thanks for the story - I have to say I was quite surprised, that gay-activists so strongly objected to it - because I not only find it a humorous ad that actually (in terms of marketing messages) works well, but rather in support of social acceptance of gays than against it? But then I am not in India and thus not familiar with social and political surroundings that criminalize same sex love. Still, I sometimes think we get a little too touchy and thus blind to the real picture because we are so used to being hated

Hi Dhivya,

reaction of a Jeans on a straight issue like this......
Materially speaking i am made of a hard woven natural cotton which implies that whatever my orientation be, i am intricately woven in my relationships, natural to some and unnatural to many, but my binding is to be kept in wraps.

My color fades with time and so do my people.

But the only thing which i do is endure through time and tides, never to relent.

Though i am straight,my only opinion on the topic is that as far as sexual orientation of an individual is concerned, why there is always a public outcry when 99.99% of the world have sex in their closed and private lives.

Sex is a feeling its a sense, and it has to be relished by people in whatever way they like. Its a freedom, but bounded in the bedroom(or whatever enclosed space) they prefer.

So lets appreciate the creativity of the ad guys to tell the world that whatever inclinations they have in their private lives,a jeans can make a "comman" statement of "living" together in a world, not so straight.

Dhivya,

Its just that everyone does it but nobody talks about it

Talking about it considered such a taboo topic.

Thats one reason that people take shelter of "culture" word.

U wrote this article, hundreds read it, 10 out of 100 commented. Rest 90????

Taboo topic to comment :)
